American Montessori Virtual Academy

American Montessori Virtual Academy

Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, American Montessori Academy (AMA) will offer the American Montessori Virtual Academy (AMVA), a 100 percent online educational program. Students in Kindergarten through grade 8 will have the opportunity to participate.

Students will be taught by certified and highly qualified AMA teachers. Students will engage on a daily basis with teachers in both live and recorded formats. A high priority will be placed on developing strong student and teacher relationships to increase engagement, well-being, and academic growth. Teachers will focus on rigor, relevance, and high expectations for every student and their individual learning needs.

The AMVA program may be accessed from the safety of a students’ home or anywhere there is an internet connection.

The AMVA Manual below provides an overview and details of the program structure, instructional delivery models, daily schedule components, course offerings, as well as student, family, and teacher expectations.  Within the manual, you will find several resource documents and supporting links.  This manual is currently in DRAFT form and subject to changes as we approach the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

Sample Daily/Weekly Schedule

The AMVA will have a school day time commitment very similar to traditional school times.  Attendance will be taken on a regular basis.  The day will be a mix of live teacher instruction, online resources, individual work, and small group instruction.  A tentative daily/weekly schedule has been developed for elementary and secondary students. We have heard feedback from parents regarding the difficulty of making a full-year commitment to the American Montessori Virtual Academy. Therefore, we have made the decision to change our requirement to a trimester commitment. We believe this better addresses families' needs and takes into account the possibility that Michigan may be in a different phase of the Governor's MI Safe Start Plan.
