American Montessori Academy is a tuition-free public school academy from Kindergarten to grade six for Michigan residents.

The Montessori philosophy encourages children to explore and experience an environment full of unique materials, that seek to develop independence, concentration and a life-long love of learning. Students choose materials that are carefully sequenced and developmentally appropriate to promote success at each level. We offer individualized and small group instruction in a caring, nurturing and respectful atmosphere.

Open Enrollment

The Open Enrollment period has ended. Based on the number of applicants and available openings, there will be no lottery. Applications are still being accepted. Please call or visit the office for more information.

Features of the Montessori Method:

Whole Child Approach: activities promote the development of social skills, emotional growth and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation. The curriculum allows the child to experience the joy of learning, time to enjoy the process and ensure the development of self-esteem.

Materials: are multi-sensory, sequential, self-correcting and developmentally appropriate to facilitate the learning of skills and lead to abstract thought.

Teachers: dual certified - they hold certificates from the State of Michigan and a Montessori training program.

Peer Teaching: under the direction of the classroom teacher, students who are more academically and socially advanced develop into role models. A real sense of family and community emerges as children learn patience, nurturance, tolerance and an appreciation for other perspectives.

Objectives include independence, self-direction, self-confidence, respect for self, others and the environment, responsibility, love of learning, concrete experiences and family partnerships.
